5 mins from flyer to FIRE!
Transcript: 0:00 You've probably heard people say, don't post flyers, don't post flyers, don't post flyers. But, if you're wondering what's the easiest or quickest way to actually take something from a flyer and make it an accessible Facebook post, here is my best recommendation. 0:18 When you're in the Pro Canva account, just take the flyer that you're thinking about turning into a post, click magic switch, this is new, it used to be magic resize. 0:32 Browse by category, you can do Facebook right here. Landscape posts are still the most popular, although Facebook stories might be useful if you notice that you're getting a lot of engagement on those. 0:48 So just, actually we're only going to do page one because I haven't actually made page two useful yet. Press continue, copy and resize, and it's not perfect, it's, a little annoying sometimes because it does keep everything. 1:09 So on a Facebook post obviously you don't need all of the logos or the discrimination statement. Whoops, I didn't mean to get rid of get rid of that logo, that logo, that logo. 1:21 You don't want to have all this text on a Facebook post because then you'll have to type all of that in the alternative text and you don't need that. 1:29 So basically just get rid of all the links, lock this. So that it doesn't move when I click things around. 1:41 Just make this bigger. Gonna make this bigger. That bigger. Hang on. So basically I just took everything out that wasn't a headline, the date, and then who it's by. 2:04 I kept the 4-H glover because I wanted to, not because you absolutely have to have it in there. Every image. 2:12 And then this is probably not the best because I have items a little too close to the right over here, which means that they'll be cut off on some screens, but I'm just going to download that. 2:25 As a png, that'll save. Now I have a flyer. Actually I didn't rename it. So that took me less than three minutes and you'll notice I pulled the links out of this image. 2:47 That's because we're going to put them in the text of the post and you really only want on only want to have one link per post because that's all that will kind of auto-show rank and then turn into something clickable on Facebook that you can really see. 3:03 That's not for accessibility reasons that I know of, that's just how Facebook works so there's no real reason to put more than one link because it will just reduce the number of people who click anything on your Facebook post. 3:14 So we've got our graphic to catch eyes and a bit of big text. Now I'm going to take this over to Facebook and post it with alternative text and then the links in the actual caption. 3:25 I've got Facebook open so I'm just going to take that, is that going to work? Ah, it did not work. 3:32 Post a photo. Now I can drag it in. There we go. So I have, I already created my listing over here on the Facebook, I mean on the extension website. 3:46 So, I'm just gonna link directly to this so that people can find all of the information they need as well as both of the registration links. 3:56 So I'm gonna populate that first. It will stay right there. Then I can also open up my actual flyer and hopefully I can pull text directly from the flyer. 4:20 There we go. I'm gonna write a more welcoming headline than I necessarily have in the image. You know what, I should tag. 4:44 There we go. And then to make this accessible and make sure that people using screen readers can actually see the text. 4:50 Next included in this image. I'm gonna go to edit right here. I'm gonna do alternative text. So it created OSU extension for choose words. 5:04 A quiz. I don't know what that, symbol is. But other than that it's pretty good. So I'm just gonna leave it alone. 5:14 Text tool. Don't need that. Don't need that. Don't need that. Alright, well I didn't have to do anything. I just double-checked the alt text and we're good to go. 5:23 So now I know it's accessible and I could post it just like that and it will link to the extension website and have all the text in there that I need without posting a flyer and that took me about five minutes.
