Center for Land Surface Hazards (CLaSH): Forging scientific discoveries and building community connections

Abstract: Geomorphic events like landslides and floods frequently act as catalysts for cascading hazards, where initial disturbances trigger a chain of subsequent events with compounding societal impacts. As global change and demographic growth intensify these risks, there is a critical need for integrated scientific frameworks to analyze these interconnected processes—such as post-fire debris flows and flooding. This Town Hall highlights the milestones of the Center for Land Surface Hazards (CLaSH) Catalyst and outlines vision for future research and outreach. CLaSH is dedicated to unifying the research community, fostering interdisciplinary breakthroughs, and providing essential training to improve disaster preparedness. We particularly welcome the perspectives of students and early-career researchers.
