Laura Isiorda was born in Jolotemba, Nayarit in
1966. In 1985 she came to the United States and worked as a farmworker for nine
years. She then volunteered for Salud Medical Center and was recruited to be
the Lay Health Promoter where she led outreach efforts to farmworker
communities. Afterwards, she worked for Farmworker Housing Development
Corporation where she was the Residents Services Director and developed
after-school and summer programs. She then became the Community Leadership
Director and oversaw different programs and community building and residents
services. She also served part-time with the Oregon Department of Human
Services as a foster and adoptive parent instructor. She was the Executive
Director of CAPACES Leadership Institute from 2011 to 2017. At the time of the
interview she was a Field Coordinator for the Ford Family Foundation.
