In July 1925, the Pacific Spruce Company brought Japanese laborers to Toledo to work the green chain, a particularly dangerous step in the lumber mill process. Only two days after their arrival, town residents formed a mob and violently expelled them. "The Toledo Incident of 1925: Three Days That Made History in Toledo, Oregon," is the definitive book detailing this incident, what led to it, and the lawsuit brought – and won – by the Japanese workers.
Ted Cox earned a master’s degree in education from Oregon State University in 1975. Ted’s adventures have taken him from teaching in Sierra Leone to coaching track and field in Belize, and later to running the Old World Deli in Corvallis, Oregon, for more than forty years.
