Portland native Aletha Chavis enjoyed a long career in education, including a tenure as vice principal of Grant High School and, later, as director of personnel for the Portland public schools. This is the first of two interviews that she granted to Ruth Kornberg for inclusion in the Oregon Black Pioneers Oral History Collection (OH 042), which is housed in the Special Collections and Archives Research Center, Oregon State University Libraries.
