The OSU Beavers men's basketball team finished the 1986-87 season with an overall record of 19-11 (10-8 in conference), concluding the year with a loss in the second round of the NIT tournament. The team was led by senior center Jose Ortiz (22.3 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game) and freshman guard Gary Payton (12.5 ppg, 7.6 assists per game).
