Abstract:
This webinar will cover a high-level summary to appreciate how disability is understood, perceived, and experienced across cultures and locations as well as provide an overview of anthropological approaches to studying disability and frame why these approaches are important to understanding the intersection of disability and disaster. The session will then move to real-world and practical examples of these principles when applied to the practice of emergency management in the US. This webinar is appropriate for attendees in all academic disciplines, professional emergency managers, planners, and responders as well as advocates and individuals in the disability community. While an overview of a complex topic, attendees will be able to further research or directly apply the information upon conclusion of the webinar.
