Address delivered at the Pauling centenary conference, "A Liking for the Truth: Truth and Controversy in the Work of Linus Pauling." The first-born of Linus and Ava Helen Pauling's four children, Linus Pauling Jr. is also a past executive officer of the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine, and enjoyed a long and successful career practicing psychiatry in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was introduced by Oregon State University president emeritus John Byrne.
