Marlan Carlson was a professor of music at Oregon State University from 1969-2023, serving as department chair from 1993-2010. Carlson has also led the Corvallis-OSU Symphony Orchestra since 1985. In this interview (3 of 4), Carlson discusses his brother, Irving, and reflects on his connection with the Northwest Interinstitutional Council on Study Abroad, the impact of the LaSells Stewart Center at OSU, his many years as conductor of the Corvallis-OSU Symphony, and his involvement with Opera Theater Corvallis. He also shares his memories of his years as chair of the OSU Music Department; conducting in China, Russia and Sweden; and his decision to retire in Spring 2023.
