Described as one of the premier invitational meets in women's collegiate gymnastics, the third annual Shanico Inn-vitational was held at Gill Coliseum on the campus of Oregon State University on February 25 and 26, 1983. The meet was claimed by Arizona State with a score of 185.05. Other teams participating were: Utah (183.40), Oregon State (180.55), USC (176.20), Georgia (175.00), Nebraska (169.00) and Michigan (167.33). The individual all-around title went to ASU's Kim Neal, who scored a meet record of 38.10. OSU's top all-around performer was Jayne Weinstein, who finished tied for fifth at 36.60.
Coached by Ron Ludwig and led by gymnasts Laurie Carter, Michelle Gabiola, Barb Hale and Jayne Weinstein, the 1982-1983 OSU Women's Gymnastics team finished the regular season with a record of 27-4-1, finishing third at the NCAA regional meet and ninth at nationals.
