Geraldine Hammond enjoyed a long career in education, including stints as the first African American school principal in the Salem, Oregon school district and, later, as the district's Coordinator of Multicultural Education. Hammond Elementary School in Salem is named in her honor. She was interviewed by Ruth Kornberg for the Oregon Black Pioneers Oral History Collection (OH 042), which is housed in the Special Collections and Archives Research Center, Oregon State University Libraries.
