Part 2 of a recording of the Northwest Forest Conference, a "timber summit" held at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland on April 2, 1993. Meant to address the sometimes conflicting needs provided for by the region's forests, the conference featured participation by President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore.
Roundtable 2, "Ecological and Economic Assessments," included prepared remarks delivered by John Gordon (Dean, Yale University School of Forestry), Lorin Hicks (wildlife biologist) and Charles Meslow (Oregon State University wildlife biologist and northern spotted owl researcher). Other panelists included Rick Brown (National Wildlife Federation), Jerry Franklin (forest ecologist), Chad Oliver (professor of silviculture and forest policy), Jim Sedell (fishery biologist), and Dan Tomascheski (Vice President, Sierra Pacific Industries).
