In June 2008 Oregon InC voted to support a grant proposal from the OSU College of Forestry aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the Oregon forest sector. The program of work includes development of innovative products, processes, and business systems in the areas of forest production, transportation, and utilization. Funding of the grant proposal will be determined by the Legislature for the 2009-2011 biennium. A total of $2.30 million was included in the Governor's Budget. The College's innovation proposal spans the entire value chain: tree growing, transportation, and wood utilization. It includes accelerating the adoption of research findings in tree growing, establishment of a Forest Transportation Center to apply innovative practices to improve fuel efficiency and reduce transportation costs, and to develop a Wood Innovation Center to assist entrepreneurs in bringing new wood products to market. This video helps champion the merits of this proposal.
