In recent years, outdoor recreation visits to U.S. national parks has grown exponentially. Outdoor recreation provides society with a variety of benefits, but these activities can also cause negative impacts to the environment. Careful, science-based management is needed to balance recreation access and conservation goals. This presentation will highlight how the scientific field of recreation ecology can help us understand the impacts caused by outdoor recreation while also informing how to conserve national parks for future generations.
