Instead of asking students to attend weekly three-hour lab sessions, Amy Harwell is combining the power of online learning activities throughout the term with a single, intensive weekend in the lab for her Human Anatomy and Physiology Lab course. This opens the door to students who work full time or live in other parts of Oregon. Harwell received support through the Center for Teaching and Learning's Hybrid Course Initiative. She participated in the Spring 2012 Hybrid Faculty Learning Community to learn more about blended learning, while sharing redesign ideas and experiences with other OSU faculty members engaged in redesigning classroom courses as reduced-seat-time hybrid courses.
