"A Raisin in the Sun" was the first OSU theatrical production to focus on the African American experience. It was staged from March 8-12, 1983 in the Cortright Studio Theater in what was then known as Education Hall (present-day Furman Hall). One cast member, Loretta Smith, who played the role of Ruth, was elected to the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners in 2010.
