Created by OSU Oceanography faculty member Charles Osterberg, these silent films were created during research voyages conducted off the coast of Oregon in 1961-1965. The films document research on radioactivity levels in the waters near the mouth of the Columbia River and depict the collection of water and marine life samples near Astoria, Newport, and Depoe Bay. Footage of the mooring of a buoy used in a study of wave energy generation is also included. Several Oregon State University faculty and students are depicted in the films including: William Pearcy, Norman Cutshall, Lyle Hubbard, Norman Kujala, Ingvar Lauren Larsen, Bruce Wyatt, Pete Hanson, and David Jennings. Research cruises on the Acona, Yaquina, and Kiska are documented in the footage.
Digitized from four film reels held in the Charles Osterberg Motion Picture Films (FV 284), Special Collections and Archives Research Center, Oregon State University Libraries.
