The Beaver men's basketball team finished the 2004-05 campaign at 17-15, the program's first winning record since the 1989-90 season. It's subsequent participation in the National Invitation Tournament also marked the program's first participation in post-season play since the '89-90 team's appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Led by forwards David Lucas and Nick DeWitz, and guards Chris Stephens and J.S. Nash, OSU lost only three home games all season, including an 85-83 overtime loss to Cal State Fullerton in the first round of the NIT to conclude the year.
The OSU women's team struggled over the same time period, compiling a record of 6-23 in what proved to be head coach Judy Spoelstra's final campaign in charge of the program.
